Know your body

Do you know how God wants you to use your body?

How well do you know your body? Do you know what your body is? What it is for, what it is not for? Do you know exactly how you should use your body? It is important to know your body, so you know what to, and what not to do with it. There are six extremely important things you must know about your body, from 1 Corinthians 6...

1. Your body is for the Lord

"The body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord Jesus, and the Lord for the body." (v 13b)

Your body is to be used for the Lord, to worship and please Jesus. You are not to use your body to just do whatever pleases you. Sexual immorality doesn’t please Jesus.

2. Your body will be raised

"God raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power". (v. 14)

Your body will be resurrected. Therefore what you do with your body here on earth matters.

3. Your body is a part of Christ’s body

"Don’t you know that your bodies are a part of Christ’s body?" (v. 15)

Your body is part of a bigger body; Jesus Christ’s body, the church. Therefore your body is significant, important. You are forever on “team Jesus”, and you should want to play for team Jesus, not against team Jesus.

4. Your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit

"Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God?" (v. 19)

Everywhere you go, everything you do, God the Holy Spirit goes with you. You are never alone with your body; God the Holy Spirit is always with you.

5. Your body is not your body

"You are not your own, for you were bought at a price". (v. 19b-20)

“I can do whatever I like with my body, because it’s my body?” No, it’s not. Your body was bought at the price of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Your body belongs to Him. So what then should you do with our body?

6. Therefore glorify God in your body

"Glorify God in your body". v. 20b

You can glorify God with your body by understanding your body, and using it the way God designed it and bought it to be used. Your body is for the Lord. Your body will be raised by God. Your body is a part of Christ’s body. Your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit. Your body is not your body.

So, the question is ... are you glorifying God with your body?
