Which church is the right one?

The essential thing that you need to do is find a Church that is preaching from the Bible. It is important to be a part of a Church whose leadership sits under the Bible’s teaching i.e. they uphold the Bible as the Word of God. If you are not in a Bible-believing Church then as a member of a congregation you can be led astray by the winds of false teaching. For further information on false teaching see these passages within the ESV Bible online:

1 Timothy 3:3-7 or 1 Timothy 6:3-10:

Some of the best guidance I received when choosing a Church came from Phillip Jensen’s book ‘Guidance and the Word of God’, by Mattthias Media 1997.

In this book Phillip says:

‘Church is a gathering of God’s people. The first criterion for choosing a Church is that the people are Christians. The true Church also sits under the authoritative words of the Bible, not just in theory, but in practice. It doesn’t really matter what brandname a Church has, whether it has Anglican, Presbyterian, or Uniting on its front gate. If it does not teach and model its Church live on these sorts of truths, then we will not encounter Christian fellowship there’.

I find another important factor is whether you are being built up in the faith by being there, and whether you are able to serve and to encourage and build others up in the faith.
