4 reasons why you should share your faith

Part 2: Because Jesus is Lord, and God commands us to

In the last post...

In the last post, we saw there were four reasons why we should talk to your friends about Jesus.

  1. Evangelism is part of God’s Big Plan
  2. The Gospel is Good News
  3. Jesus is Lord
  4. God commands us to Go

Let's now take a look at points 3 and 4.

3. Because Jesus is Lord

Right now, there is hostility towards Jesus. Christians are being persecuted all around the world because they believe in Jesus and tell others about Him. Many people refuse to acknowledge that God even exists.

But this is not the way it will always be…

“God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
(Philippians 2:9-11)

Every knee will bow before Jesus; every tongue will declare that He is Lord.

Maybe your friends don’t bow to Jesus today. The Bible tells us that they will in the future. As Christians, we need to urge our friends to bow before Jesus as his friends while the offer is still on the table, otherwise one day they will be forced to bow before him as his enemies.

One day the opportunity to turn away from sin and follow Jesus will pass, so don’t give up urging your friends to trust in Jesus.

We’ve been looking at four reasons why we should talk to our friends about Jesus. I hope you have been challenged to share your faith. Here is the fourth reason to share the Gospel…

4. Because God commands us to

“All authority on heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus’ final command to His followers is to make disciples of all nations. A disciple is someone who trusts in Jesus and follows Him. It is such a privilege to be a part of God’s work in the world!

Even if you are struggling to feel joyful in serving Christ, Jesus still calls us to faithfully obey. It’s not enough just to hear the Word of God – Jesus repeatedly says that His true followers are “those who hear the word of God and do it” (Luke 8:21). He has sent us the Holy Spirit to help us to obey.

You are being made more like Jesus every day as the Holy Spirit works in your life – so, live as Jesus lived and do what He says.
