Thank you for responding, i understand God is Love and God is Just. In light of Hell, in my human wisdom, i do not see it really just but a just thing for God to do also includes destroying (which is more merciful than eternal punishment), or even limited punishment is merciful and just because that means sins are being paid for in absense of Jesus. All in all, I am studying the Bible and I have never come across a clear passage that says “people will be tormented eternally”. The New Testament has it’s main focus on love, humility and service…i just don’t see eternal punishment fitting in with it
Hell is a difficult notion for me to grasp. I can’t contemplate the idea of people suffering for eternity. I believe in Jesus, but I don’t think I can ever believe in eternal punishment/suffering. For one thing, the Bible is never really clear on what hell is. While it is Just for people to be punished for thier sins, but in my mind that should be it. Apostle Paul said it was our ‘flesh’ that drived sin in our lives. Once people leave thier flesh they will be free from sin…i can accept the idea of people being punished, but not eternally. In fact I personally believe that the unsaved are destroyed or perished from existance.
Hi Jack - thanks for your comment. This is certainly one of the hardest areas for many Christians to understand and accept. I would encourage you to keep thinking this through & have a good read through your Bible to see what you think it is saying. There are sometimes things God says that we might not like. However, just because we find those things difficult, it doesn’t make them wrong. In the end, we have to accept what God says, and then work hard at trying to understand why he says it.
