What is a Christian?

http://www.sydneyanglicans.net/images/uploads/christianity/fact_christian_icon.pngA Christian is someone who puts their trust in Jesus. It’s that simple.

Knowing they need forgiveness for all they have done wrong, a Christian trusts that Jesus’ death is adequate to cover the punishment they deserve (2 Corinthians 5:21) Trusting in Jesus’ death means that we can come freely before God, accepted as his child and confident of his welcome and his willingness to help us (Romans 8:15; Hebrews 4:15,16).

If you’d like to read more about what it means to enter into a new relationship with God because of what Jesus has done, we suggest you have a look at God Makes Sense, particularly the section Portrait of a follower of Christ

A person who puts their trust in Jesus becomes a follower of Jesus.

As a follower of Jesus a Christian seeks to live the way Jesus commanded. Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount is one place to find out how Jesus asks his followers to live (Matthew 5-7).

A Christian sees themselves as part of a community. This is the way God intends people to grow and support one another (Hebrews 10:24,25). That’s why Christians see it as so important to meet together.
