Jesus - the undercover boss

Are you willing to be as humble as Jesus was?

Have you seen the latest reality TV show Undercover Boss?

Each week a different executive leaves the comfort of their corner office for an undercover mission to examine the inner workings of their company. While working alongside their unsuspecting employees, they see the effects their decisions have on others, where the problems lie within their organisation and get an up-close look at both the good and the bad while discovering the unsung heroes who make their company run.

Of course, Christians worship the ultimate Undercover Boss; Jesus. Check out Philippians 2:5-8;

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death— even death on a cross!

Jesus is God, the ultimate boss

Jesus had a mission which required him to leave the comfort of heaven and go undercover. He became a man, even a servant. And he went to the frontline, not to “find out what could be improved and discover some unsung heroes”, but to do battle with Satan, sin and death.

He didn’t “work alongside his employees”, he did all the work for them, by living a uniquely perfect life, dying an excruciating, susbstitutionary, sin-bearing death and rising victoriously and eternally to life again. And at his ascension Jesus didn’t take off his undercover uniform and put on his executive suit and tie again. No, he is still a man today, reigning as God’s right hand man in heaven.

Undercover Bosses in the TV show may have a variety of reasons for participating in the show; fame, money, good publicity for them and their company. It is hard not to wonder how many of them would work undercover if there were no cameras.

However, Jesus went undercover out of humility and obedience to his Father. That’s really the point of Philippians 2, to encourage Christ-like humility (check out Philippians 2:1-4).

This leaves you with 2 questions:

1) Is Jesus your Boss? Have you turned back to him, believing that he is God in the flesh?

2) Is your attitude the same as Jesus’? Do consider other people’s needs before your own? Do you look to the interests of others before your own?

So remember, when you watch Undercover Boss, or when you see an ad for it, that you have the Ultimate Undercover Boss in Jesus. Remember his humility and obedience in dying for you. And strive to have the same attitude that he had.
