You were made in God’s image

What does that mean if God is three persons in one?

Why do we need relationships?

In Genesis 2:18, God says "it is not good for the man to be alone". Why not? Well, it’s because we’re made in his image, and God is all about relationhips.

Check out Genesis 1:27. It says:

“God created people in his own image; God patterned them after himself; male and female he created them.”

Let’s think about the ‘image’ of God. Who is he? What does being made in his image mean?

The image of God

We all know that there is only one God. As well, most of us understand that in that one God, there are three persons - the Trinity.

The Trinity is something that usually comes up in Sunday school when the teacher brings out the old egg illustration (yoke, white & shell). It's not exactly right, but it can help us understand a little.

And children generally nod their heads. “We get it,” they say. They take home their boiled egg that the teacher gives out, they eat them and then they forget about them.

Most people think about the Trinity as something that is kind of cool, but not really important. We say: “Sure, the Trinity is interesting. But really, who cares anyway? Does it make any difference to how I live my life?”

The trinity and relationships

God’s personhood shapes our identity as people. It shapes how we relate to other people.

God being Trinity – three in one – shows us three things:

Firstly, it’s not good to be alone.

Secondly, it is good to be different and unique.

Thirdly, loving interdependence is the way to relate.

What about you? Have you ever thought about the Trinity having some relevance to your life? How do you feel about being made in God’s image?
