What does God want me to do with my life? What should I be planning for life after HSC? Study, work, travel… what about mission? The answer to this question must come from Jesus.
The bible tells us that Jesus is Lord of all the earth. Philippians 2:9-10 puts it like this:
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
What does this mean for life now?
It means that we should let “Jesus Christ is Lord” drown out the “me, me, me” that comes so naturally to us. It also means that “what I do with my life” is less important than “how I live my life”. I need to live a life that pleases God – in whatever situation he places me. Put bluntly: Be a Christian where your feet are at.
But there are people who don’t know that Jesus is Lord. We should care about this – for his sake and for theirs. We should use what God has given us to help other people see that Jesus is Lord. For some of us, this might mean going somewhere else, because ‘how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?’ (Rom 10:14).
Is it for me?
How can I know if God has given me the kind of gifts that I could take my feet somewhere else in the world and live for Jesus there?
Why not start looking into it? Get informed about God’s world. Start praying for God’s world. Speak with other people about what God is doing in the world. But above all, make sure you’re living for Jesus now. Be a Christian where your feet are at!
