Year 12 exams: the big picture - part III

Part 3: Remember God loves you, and relax!

Remember God loves you no matter what results you get

I am a man of routine. So my exam days used to follow a pretty calculated schedule. But even if other things got mucked up I would always listen to the same song. Before every exam in year 11, year 12 and beyond Chris Tomlin’s ‘Glorious’ would play before I walked in. For me it was the biggest comfort knowing that I believed in an incredible God that loved me no matter what and that I would be going to heaven regardless of how the exam went.

This is not to say you must follow my routine. But keeping in mind the need to work hard and remember the bigger picture of life after the HSC, I want to encourage you not to forget Gods promises.

Here is one of the best verses:

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:38-39)

Gods love is amazing! He sent his son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. Jesus brings forgiveness, salvation and life. Never, ever forget this.

So…

Relax!

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you". (1 Peter 5:7)

God wants to support you. He cares for you! So lean on him at this stressful time. Give your worries to him in prayer.

Remember when Jesus was stressed in the garden before being arrested? He cried out to God for help, but asked that God's will be done. You are going through much less than he was, but in the same way call to God for help and guidance.

Knowing his love and letting it transform your life is very important. It will provide opportunities to share your hope with your friends. Exams actually present an incredible time to be witness to your friends:

Here are are a few ways you can witness in a simple way:

  • Being joyful or calm when those around you are stressed.
  • Helping out other people at the expense of doing your own study
  • Maybe praying by yourself or with a group of Christian friends.

At such a stressful time people will ask questions of you if you are not stressed. Those questions present an incredible opportunity to share the gospel.

So remember God loves you, and relax. Remember the assurance of your salvation if you trust in Jesus. Then be a witness to your friends during your exams!

Jesus is eternal…. Year 12 is one year. I’m praying you go well.
