Giving your gifts back to God
What did you receive at Christmas? It's time to give back.
Christmas Day started early for me, with one of my 3 sons playing “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” on his guitar at 6:45am. Then came the usual excitement of present opening and a Mango breakfast, with Christmas carols playing in the background. Ah, Christmas!
My 3 boys all brought me a present, including Lindt Ball chocolates, a sports bag and a pair of bike gloves. These are all very thoughtful presents and I am truly grateful. But the “x factor” of getting presents from your young children is this: They use MY money to buy me my presents. This, of course, is perfectly fine when they are young. But if I hadn’t given them the money in the first place, they would not have been able to give anything to me.
And this is the same with us and God. Giving to God is just giving back what already belongs to Him in the first place. In 1 Chronicles 29:14, King David prays to God saying,
“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.”
Everything belongs to God
Everything we have has come from the hand of God. Our lives are His. And in our lives are opportunities to give back to him what is already his; our time, talent, treasure, prayer, devotion, work, study, relationships, dreams and ambitions.
We can often think, “These things are mine, why should I give them back to God?” But No! They belong to God and He has given them to us to give back to Him.
So what are you going to do with the life God has given you? Live for yourself or live for God? Jesus gave up his life so you could give your life back to its rightful owner; GOD! And because Jesus died for you, you are now doubly God’s;
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.” 1Corinthians 6:19-20
Keep giving back to God what belongs to Him. And Keep honoring God with your (His) body.
