Who was Satan?
Who was Satan? Is it true that he was an angel in heaven but was cast out because he tried to rule over God?
The Bible tells us that Satan is real and he exists. We are told that he is a spirit (Ephesians 6:12, Job 1:6-7). He is a spirit that lies (John 8:42 – 45) However we are not told much about his origins.
We are told of his opposition against God and his people. We are told of how he is inferior to God (Colossians 1:16, 2:15).
Additionally the Bible tells us how Jesus defeated Satan and his demons. When Jesus was in the desert tempted by Satan, Jesus commands the devil to leave (Matthew 4:1-11). Unlike many others, Jesus never submitted to Satan’s temptations or authority.
Secondly evil spirits submitted to Jesus. In many of the exorcisms, demons fell down in front of Jesus and begged for mercy (Mark 1:32, Mark 5:1-20). The devil is a defeated foe.
Can I encourage you with the following words from the Bible.
“See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8)
