Join us during Advent 2019 for daily readings celebrating our hope in Christ.

Celebrate hope with our daily advent readings

Around this time of year, we often see people putting up their advent wreath, advent calendar and even advent candles.

But apart from looking nice and pretty, what exactly are these traditions about? And why do we celebrate advent?

A simple definition of advent

The meaning of the word Advent is 'arrival'. We celebrate advent in the period leading up to Christmas as a chance to reflect on the arrival of Jesus, the Messiah.

In one of the busiest periods of the year, Advent gives us the opportunity to be still.

Advent provides time to reflect on the years of patient waiting Israel endured before Jesus came to earth, and to remember that we are still waiting for his second coming.
