Your testimony – God’s glory

Read John Mackenzie's lifechanging story... then get ready to share yours.

Most of you have heard a testimony like mine.

I grew up in a wonderful Christian Family, with amazing people who have greatly shaped my life. I went to church... Christian School... and accepted Christ at youth group.

But as I became a teen, I was rebellious and stubborn and drifted away from God.

In 2006 as a 17 year-old, my life dramatically changed when I was paralyzed as a passenger in a car accident. In that instant God reached His sovereign hand down into my life and showed me how real and loving and powerful he truly is.

Let me tell you what God has done

In Luke chapter 8:26-39, we see that Jesus heals a possessed man.

After Jesus radically changed this man's life, this outcast of man decided he wanted to go with Jesus and follow Him. Here's what Jesus said to him – and the man's response:

“Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you.” And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.

I want to do the same and declare how much God has done for me, because let me tell you something – over these past thirteen years that I have been in this wheelchair, I have been to hell and back, but I am alive and thriving, not because I am tough, not because I am strong, not because of anything I did. I am alive and saved today because of what God has done and is continuing to do through me.

I am a sinner saved by grace

I am not an inspiration. I am a sinner saved by grace who falls short of the glory of God everyday.

I have been a dropout, a rebel, a misfit – but through Christ I am redeemed.

I have made horrible choices time after time, I have lashed out when I should have loved, but God knows my heart.

I have been abandoned by people I love, I have been failed by leaders, I have felt unloved, looked down upon and looked over. But God loves me, and he loves you. He is a forgiving, loving, and mighty God.

When you know Jesus, you know peace. When you know Jesus, you know love. When you know Jesus, you know forgiveness. He will never fail you.

Let the words of Acts 20:24 remind you of what truly matters today – “I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace”.

My name is John and God loves me just like He loves you.
