How will you be remembered?

We all die one day, so what do you want people to say at your funeral?

Ever been to a funeral?

Recently I was asked to sing at a funeral. Have you ever been to a funeral? There are often a lot of nice words said, and many tears. When we go to funerals, I think we all end up reflecting on life and death. Our thoughts often turn to ourselves.

We all die one day. It is a fact. A scary fact. Yes, death is the great leveler.

How will you be remembered?

When it comes your time how will people remember you?

  • For being nice?
  • For being good at your job?
  • For being obsessed with money?
  • For watching lots of TV?

How will people remember you?

Remembered for being a follower of Jesus

I hope that people remember me for being a follower of Jesus. Things that I achieve (success, money, career) or personal attributes (being friendly, loving others) are good. But what I want people to remember me for is a life spent sharing the good news about Jesus.

Why do I want to be remembered this way? It's because Jesus offers life after death. He offers eternal life in a new and perfect creation. So I know that even though I will die one day on this earth, I will in fact live forever with God in heaven. I hope I can tell as many people as I can about this before I die.

Jesus says this: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die."

Do you believe this? Will you be remembered for telling others about Jesus?
