Fervr Fashion Guide: Looking Good?

When what you wear can lead to sin.

When a guy suddenly starts putting an effort into how he dresses and how he looks, chances are he’s keen on a girl. He wants her to notice him. He wants her to be attracted to him. He wants her to want to be seen with him. I’m sure girls go through the same thought process when they’re after a guy. How far should I go to impress someone of the opposite sex?

When it comes to attracting the opposite sex, it seems it’s not what you put on but what you take off. The less clothes you wear, the more sexually appealing you’ll be. Guys walking around with their shirts off showing off their chest and shoulders. Girls wearing skimpy outfits that show off as much skin and cleavage as they can.

However, wearing less may lead other people to sin. Wearing less may lead people to think of sex. Are you wanting that guy or girl to think about having sex with you?

Jesus said “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:28) The same statement applies equally to the ladies.

Guys, we need to look out for our Christian sisters. Girls, you need to look out for your Christian brothers. Don’t act in such a way that could cause your brother or sister to sin. Don’t dress your body in a way that could produce lustful thoughts.

“But guys are going to think those thoughts anyway, so it doesn’t matter!” Yeah, you might be right. But are you going to help your brother or are you going to make it worse for him? Are you going to build up your brothers and sisters in godliness, or are you going to drag them down?

“Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.” (1 Peter 3:3-4)

This applies to both the girls and the guys. It’s not what you wear (or not wear) that makes you attractive. True beauty comes from your Christian character.
