Better than I deserve

It's the perfect answer when people ask "how are you going?"

You know how the conversation normally goes;

Person A - “Hi, How are you?”

Person B - “Yeh, good. You?”

Person A - “Fine thanks”

I read some interesting advice the other day that you might like to try. The next time someone asks you how you are, try answering “Better than I deserve”.

“Better than I deserve”; what does that mean?

It is an acknowledgement that we are sinners, who deserve God’s measured anger and just punishment. Romans 6:23 says that the wages for sin is death. That’s what we deserve for our sin.

However, God is a God of love, mercy, grace, compassion and forgiveness. That means God daily treats us “Better than we deserve”. Just the fact that we are still alive means we are getting “Better than we deserve”.

And, of course, for us who believe in Jesus, we are especially “Better than we deserve”. For those who are “in Christ” by faith have a new life, a new heart, a fresh start, eternal hope, eternal riches, adoption into God’s family and a sharing in the divine nature. Wow!

So no matter what situation you find yourself in, you can always answer the “how are you going?” question with “Better than I deserve”.
