Would we recognise Jesus if we saw him in the street?

Would we recognise Jesus if we saw him in the street?

When Jesus was on earth the first time 2000 years ago, you wouldn’t have thought there was anything special about him just by looking at him.  The Bible says that “he had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him” (Isaiah 53:3).  It also says that he is able to sympathise with our weaknesses, because he was tempted just like us (Hebrews 4:15).  He got tired (John 4:6) and hungry as well.  So Jesus was very much a normal human being (although of course he is God as well).
But when Jesus comes to earth again, it will be different.  He will come on the clouds of heaven (Mark 14:62) with angels (2 Thessalonians 1:7). Everyone will recognise him then.  The Bible says that every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is the Lord (Philippians 2:10-11).
Until he comes, you won’t see him on the street.  Anyone on the street who claims to be Jesus is not telling the truth.  Until then, we can encounter him in the Bible.  God promises that his Spirit will be present, helping us to understand.
