Is it bad to go out with a non-Christian person?

Hi There,

To build any sort of significant relationship with someone who does not share your commitment to Christ is a hard road to take, often it will come to a point where you either need to compromise the relationship or your commitment to Christ.

2 Corinthians 6:14-16 is a helpful plce to look when thinking through relationships and the stark difference that following Christ can make. It does not speifically talk about dating (since dating was not a concept that was arond durig the time of the bible) but since dating is the precursor to marriage, this passage can help you inyour thinking about dating.

Put simply, it is not morally wrong to date non-Christians but if we are serious about putting Jesus first the question we need to ask is, ‘Can I glorify God in a relationship like this?’. If you are not intending to build a serious relationship, then you need to ask why you are going out with them in the first place. Dating someone in order to convert them rarely works and makes it harder for you to express that Christ is your first priority.

In my opinion, it is better to be upfront with your priorities and ask the hard questions about why you are doing what you are doing.
