Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader Review

A fantastic sea adventure with a subtle Christian message

I love going in to a movie with low expectations. It almost always makes for a better movie experience.

Heading in to see the new Narnia movie” I really wasn’t expecting much. However I was pleasantly surprised by the whole thing.

For those of you who have read the book much of “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”  won’t be a big surprise. You know what’s coming. However it’s always cool to see if the movie makers are going to do something as well as you imagined it in your head.

Whilst the original story is a bit different to the movie the visual effects were so good it was like my imagination had come to life.

What is the movie about?

Narnia takes the viewer on a fantastic sea adventure where nothing is as it seems.

The story is full of mystery hidden objects strange places knights sailors and a cheeky talking mouse.

For those who don’t know the writer of the original Narnia books was a great Christian author  - CS Lewis. Lewis was an athiest who was converted after much searching debating and doubt. However after becoming a Christian he then went on throughout his Christian life exploring and explaining the faith in books public talks and other areas.

The Narnia books are a great resource for Christians. CS Lewis has a brilliant way of bringing gospel truths to life through his books.

Why you should see the movie

I encourage you to go and see this movie & try and use it as a way to have conversations with your friends about Jesus.

Let them know that the writer was a Christian. Ask them what they thought of some of the things Aslan (who basically represents God in Narnia) says and does. For example he tells the children “in your world (earth) I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name”. What do your friends think that means? Is it possible to know God in our world?

All in all it’s a fun movie with some amazing effects some serious moments and some Christian messages hidden for those who are willing to go looking. Go with a group of friends ” and enjoy it!
