God’s Inception
God can change your life by changing your mind
How good is the movie Inception?! Best movie I have seen in a long time. And I think it is true that an idea, planted deep inside someone’s mind, can be a powerful force for change. But as the movie so cleverly shows, it is very difficult to plant an idea so deep into someone’s mind that it “takes” and alters someone’s life forever.
To be a disciple of Jesus is to be involved in His mission of changing the world. God has always had a plan to restore this world back to paradise; to right every wrong, to free every captive, to heal every disease, to reconcile every hate, to wipe away every tear, and turn every nightmare into a dream (Revelation 21-22).
And the way God is doing this might surprise you. God is changing the world one person at a time.
Having changed us, God now calls us to be co-workers with him in this noble mission. We are to be witnesses of Jesus, telling everyone who will listen, that Jesus is good and Jesus is God. However, we must realize that we can never bring about change in those who we speak to. We can never plant the idea of the gospel deep inside someone’s mind. We are not powerful enough to alter someone’s life forever.
When it comes to changing people, only God can do it.
Only God is powerful enough to cut through sin, rebellion, hard-heartedness and spiritual deadness. And, fortunately enough, God is keen to do this.
Check out what God promises in Jeremiah 31:33-4;
“This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the LORD. “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. No longer will a man teach his neighbour, or a man his brother, saying, “Know the LORD” because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the LORD. “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
God knows that the only way people will change is if He puts His law deep into their minds and hearts. The word “inception” means the creation or beginning of something. When it comes to transforming and restoring people, it takes God’s inception. We can’t change people, but God can and does. God does this through the work of His Holy Spirit, who lives inside everyone who is a follower of Jesus (1 Corinthians 12:3).
So what should we do?
1) If you are a follower of Jesus, thank God because it is He who has started this good work in you.
2) If you are not a follower of Jesus, ask God to begin this good work in you.
3) Then pray to God, asking Him to change your friends and family, as you tell them about Jesus.
