Django Unchained: Review

A movie about slavery that reminds us all humans are equal in God's eyes

Set in the era of the Old West, and located in the Deep South of America, a slave named Django becomes a bounty hunter, who along with tracking down criminals is tasked with the mission of finding his wife and freeing her from slavery.

Quentin Tarantino has put together a very confronting movie, and not one recommended for most Fervr readers. The content in this film can be very  challenging, and is definitely not appropriate for young viewers. This is not a kid's film - it gets violent, very violent - so be warned!

Django Unchained spends a lot of time dealing with the issue of slavery. Slavery in the movie is portrayed as oppressive, horrific, barbaric, cruel or any number of other adjectives you can think of.

At times, the cruelty shown towards the black slaves from their white masters is hard to watch, but it’s important not to keep our eyes closed to reality of life in the past and, quite frankly the present reality for some in this world.

We know all humans have ultimate value because we are made in the image of God, and this movie is a stark reminder of this truth.

If after all the warnings, you are still planning on seeing this movie, take time after the film to think about how you are treating people in your own lives. Are you seeking to love them as God loves us or are you doing the opposite and bringing them down?
