What was God doing before he created the world?

At least 3 things, and they were all for you

Have you ever wondered what God was doing before he breathed this world into existence? It’s a pretty mind boggling question. The Bible doesn’t tell us a lot about what God was up to, but it does tell us some wonderful things. Here are three.

1.Before creation, God was providing Salvation for us.

“He (Jesus) was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.” (1Peter 1:20-21)

It wasn’t as if God made the world, we mucked it all up (Genesis 3) and then God had to think of a different plan to fix up our mess. No, from before creation, God and Jesus (and the Holy Spirit) had worked out the plan for our salvation, which would involve Jesus adopting flesh, surrendering to death, resurrecting to life and being glorified into eternity.

2.Before creation, God was electing His people

"According as he has chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love." (Ephesians 1:4).

Before the foundation of the world God had already chosen us to be His people, who should be holy as He is holy. This choice is based on his love and grace.

3.Before creation, God was preparing a kingdom for us

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.” (Matthew 24:34)

As Christians we look forward in hope to being fully present in the glorious kingdom of Christ. This kingdom was prepared for those blessed by God the Father since the creation of the world.

This may not answer all our questions about what God was getting up to before He created us, but it is a wonderful insight into some of the things. These show us that God has a plan, the world is not spinning out of control. And God, in His sovereign grace, has included those who treasure Christ to benefit unbelievably from the salvation that King Jesus has won for us.

All worship and praise to our Eternal God.
