The beauty of freedom

Be reminded of just how liberating it is to be saved by Jesus.

What are we saved from?

When we become Christians what are we doing? Nothing.

God is doing something. He is redeeming us. He is justifying us. We often put it this way (and so did Paul) - he SAVES us.

Well, what does he save us from?

Sin.
Hell.
Ourselves.

But why these things?

Why do we need to be freed from sin? Because God punishes sin with his wrath.

Why do we need to be freed from hell? Because God’s punishment for sin is eternity in hell.

Why do we need to be freed from ourselves? Because of sin we are separated from God, causing us to live outside of his mercy. Our life without him is a life lived in darkness.

The beauty of being free

So in reality, to be free from the law, free from sin, free from death, and free in Christ, is really to be freed from God’s wrath.

We are freed from being punished by God.
We are freed from trying to earn favour with God & 'do enough' to get into heaven.
We are freed from being enemies of God.

So what does one do when his own executioner frees him from his sentence unconditionally and make him a son?

He feels immense joy.
He shows lavish appreciation.
He finds in himself a fresh desire for life.
He desires to do something for his rescuer.

In fact, he’d probably do something crazy like dedicate everyday of his life to him.

This is what freedom in Christ is like:

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. (Galatians 5:13)

How would you describe freedom Christ? What questions do you have about being free in Christ?
